Black Widow Spider

Black Widow Spiders

Black widow spiders are also called the hourglass spiders. They live outdoors in dark, secluded places such as under boards, rocks, and other debris. Removing these items will help eliminate potential areas where they live. Spraying the foundations of the house, dense shrubbery, and other outdoors sites with an insecticide labeled for this use can reduce the incidence of black widow spiders. Indoors, they are found in attics, garages, basements, closets, and other sites where they are not easily disturbed. Spider webs and egg sacs can be removed with thorough vacuuming of the area. The venom of the female Black widow spider is very toxic. All black widow spider bites should be considered dangerous. Seek immediate medical attention if bitten by this spider.
